Japanese
students prepare for high school by first attending school for nine
years. In Japan, students
attend elementary school for six years and junior high school for three
years. In order for students
to attend high school they must pass an entrance exam.
There are three different types of high schools in Japan: national,
public, and private high schools. There are a variety of exams for each
high school type. The exams
are difficult, so students study very seriously to pass them. High schools
look at both middle school records and exam scores when considering
students for their school. Students
who do not receive favorable scores will not be accepted into high school
and may have to attend another type of school. In order to ensure they pass the exam, some students attend
Juku School after school.
