Sikh Doli Ritual

Before the bridal party leaves to join the groom's parents in their home, the bride throws wheat grains over her shoulders. This ritual indicates sheis paying off her debt of food to the parental home and wishing prosperity to the family she is leaving behind. The new bride is then carried off in a palanquin to her new home. The doli is accepted and received by the groom's mother. A bowl of wheat is placed at the door of the in-laws' home.

Before entering, the bride kicks over the bowl to indicate her food is in her new home to which she brings prosperity and abundance. As she enters her new home she is greeted with ladoos, a sweet meat, and money or jewelry, Mukh Dekhai.
