Example of Indian wedding invitation

Jewelry is a very important part of marriage
ceremonies in India. Most brides are adorned with jewelry for religous reasons
and to look beautiful. Many Muslim brides wear a head ornament on their left
side. Most of them wear a Nath (nose ring they get at the ceremony) and they
wear bangles and necklaces. The jewelry that the bride wears indicates her social
and economic status in society as well as where she is from. Many brides have
lots of jewelry as part of their dowry. This is seen as insurance for them in
the future in case their marriage fails. This jewelry to many is a symbol of
married life.
At the henna party the bride has her feet and hands decorated. These can be compared to temporary tattoos. They often have many ornate paintings and may use precious gems.

NIKAH CEREMONY- Notice the bride standing up and covering her face. Most brides wear a red sari (uncut cloth draped around the body), symbolizing the color of marriage. It may be yellow or gold depending on the region one is from. Often brides will wear a red veil and lots of gold jewelry. Muslim brides usually wear a lahanga suit which is a long, gathered skirt, or they might wear a salwar kameez which are pants that come to the ankle with an embroidered tunic and a dupatta shawl. Muslim brides normally cover their heads. Many couples often wear garlands of flowers around their neck.
